Knives and Swords

I enjoy many aspects of this form. The finished piece excites and activates my senses with it’s nice look and clean lines, but it also is about the process. This form has challenges that surpass those I would encounter when making a blown vessel form. An invigorating change which stimulates my mind with new ideas.

Glasstones

Glasstones

The stacked glass pieces came about after a fishing trip to Canada. Friends and I went into Canada for several days of relaxation and hopefully a few meals of fish. When we crossed the border I immediately started noticing stones that were stacked intentionally by the side of the road. I found out later about their cultural background. The Glasstone sculpture bring illumination and light into a form and material usually without such charactaristics.

Sometimes when I work with glass, I like to present myself with a challenge that seems out of reach. In doing this I find new areas of discovery and exploration. With this group I have used a technique developed just for accomplishing this design. What people see is hopefully intriguing, interesting and puzzling.

I am sometimes asked where I get my ideas from, most of the time there is no single source for an idea. For the Optic Trail pieces I know that inspiration came directly from watching another glassblower work. It was not what he did with the technique, more so, what he did not do that caught my creative eye. I saw in that a fun, different way to approach an old well used technique.
Painted Bowls

Ever since I was very young I have had an appreciation of thick glass with all it’s incredible dynamics. It is like looking into water whose motion has been stopped and captured in the depth, reflectivity and layers. With each of these pieces I want to invite the viewer into the depth and layers to explore and enjoy.

One of the most amazing things about glass is that the exploration of the vast results possible continues to open the door to journey after journey. You could say these pieces are a journey in progress. Watch the website for new photos, see how a series is developed, observe it’s evolution first hand.

Metal Sculpture

Each one of these pieces has been a very personal journey using form, balance, movement and the metaphoric aspects of rust, iron, copper and wood. These create a refreshing challenge in an entirely new arena of skills I had to become aware of. This is the heart of it, being able to engage all aspects of my creative energy.
